| The
Montgolfier was the very first air craft ever to carry humans aboard. Now you can launch a
high flying hot air balloon just like the original Montgolfier that flew over the French
countryside in 1783. This replica hot air balloon is based on the collections and research
of the National Air & Space Museum. It's 5 feet tall and it soars high in the sky. Making this
balloon takes only a couple of hours, and the end result is a 5 foot tall aerostat that
will soar far overhead on a cool day. A couple of the family's hair dryers or a popcorn
popper provide the heat needed for liftoff. It's easy to make and a thrill to fly.
It's Easy To Make
Just cut out the panels, glue them together, and attach the bottom opening wire.
You can decorate the balloon with authentic historical designs, fly it without
decorations, or create your own aerial art.
It's Easy to Launch
Two hair dryers or a popcorn popper will inflate the balloon. Choose a cool day,
fill the balloon with hot air for a few minutes then watch it gracefully rise into the
sky.
It's A High Flyer
Good flights require a large temperature difference between the air inside and
outside the balloon. When it's cold outside, the Montgolfier will fly far overhead. On
warm days flights will be limited.
All the balloon materials are included in
this kit. Contents include balloon paper, pattern with full size tracing illustrations
based on the original Montgolfier decorations, support wire, plus a science and historical
guide. The only other items needed but not included in the kit are scissors and white
craft glue (like Elmer's). Markers or pens are good for adding decorations. To fly the
balloon, you'll need two hair dryers or a popcorn popper. |
