| The Switched On Schoolhouse Spanish 1 CD
ROM is designed to help students from 8th to 12th grade reach the same level of
proficiency in one year of study that a college student should attain after one semester
of Spanish study. This course is designed to be the equivalent of the first semester of
college-level Spanish (SPANISH-101). This same curriculum is also available
in textbook format. After
completing this course, a second year Spanish 2 curriculum
is available for continued Spanish instruction. Switched-On Schoolhouse Spanish 2 is in the same format as Spanish 1.
Switched On Schoolhouse Spanish 1 provides
an interactive, audio-visual way to learn introductory Spanish at the junior high and high
school level. This course includes lessons for one complete school year of Spanish 1
instruction. All course content including evaluation, testing, and scoring are done
totally on the computer.
This course establishes appreciation of
Spanish as well as basic confidence and skill in thinking and speaking the Spanish
language. After completing this course, students will be able to ask and answer basic
questions, initiate and respond to simple statements, and maintain limited face-to-face
conversations about familiar topics in Spanish. Students learn vocabulary and basic word
order through typical Spanish conversations in various settings, such as the home, school,
and town. Course materials emphasize reading comprehension and writing, while
complementary audiocassette tapes help students master verbal language skills. |
