Using
Phonics in Context

- Word Bank Brainstorm -
included as a time saver to assist teachers in exploring words containing the focus
digraph
- Interesting Words -

generate discussion because of a high interest or unfamiliarity to children.
- Language Experiences -
presented as a list of strategies and activities for each focus digraph language
experiences
- Letter Combinations provided
as an example to show that there is often more than one way to represent any one sound for
the same sound family. For example: The sound 'i' as in 'my' may be represented by a
number of different letter combinations.
Parents and teachers should strive to
develop children's awareness of sound-letter combinations by acknowledging their
suggestions during discussions. Alternative letter combinations are included at the foot
of the introductory page of each digraph.
