This text
contains 180 teaching lessons, one lesson per school day, and is set up in the same format
as the Daily Grams. Lessons present an easy approach to learning about capitalization,
punctuation, dictionary usage, sentence combining, and grammar concepts and usage.
Concepts are introduced, explained, and reintroduced throughout the text.
Each of the 180 lessons is about one page in length. The lessons are designed to be
worked with the students. Because so many explanations are included, this process
will make understanding of the materials more complete.
The material covers 2nd and 3rd grade grammar lessons in two parts, with each part
consisting of 90 lessons. Part 1 covers 90 2nd grade lessons while Part 2 covers 90 3rd
grade lessons. If you choose to use only Part I (Days 1-90), second grade level, it is
suggested that you do a lesson every other day. The same holds true if you decide to
use Part II (Days 91-180), third grade level, solely.

How to Use Easy Grammar for 2nd
& 3rd Grades
1. Students should be
"trained" to do lessons at the beginning of the daily English time
period. The lessons may be duplicated for each student, written on the chalkboard, or
placed on an overhead projector.
2. If you complete each lesson with your students,
make this a discussion time, a teaching time, and a review time. In making students
accountable for this type of activity, you may wish to take an occasional grade.
3. If you have decided to use this as a review text, you will note that students will
finish at different speeds. These ideas are suggested:
A. Allow students to discuss answers with other
students. This is a form of cooperative learning.
B. Allow students to have a reading book at all
times. Students simply read when finished.
C. Allow students "Three Minute
Conversations" when they have completed DAILY GRAMS. Students will select a
partner and discuss anything (within limits, of course). The requirement is that all
thoughts are expressed in complete sentences. Those who work faster will have more
time for this activity while others may have only a minute or two. The purpose, however,
is that everyone is ready to check the lesson at the same time.
FORMAT
You will note that each page is set up in this
manner:
1. Sentence one will always contain capitalization
errors. Encourage students to write any words that should be capitalized.
2. In sentence two of each exercise, students
will insert needed punctuation. It is suggested that students write out this
sentence, adding proper punctuation.
3. Sentences three and four will be general
review. You may want to replace one of these items with material you are currently
teaching.
4. Sentence five is always sentence
combining. Using the sentences given, students will write one, more intricate
sentence. This helps the student move to higher levels of writing. (If you feel that the
sentences given are too difficult for your level. simply delete parts. You may wish to
compose your own.) You have been given at least one possible answer. Needless to
say, there are more. |
