Student Activities Book

The spiral bound Student Activities Teacher's Edition Book includes 327 pages of hands-on investigations designed to reinforce concepts presented in the text. The pages are the same as the Student Activities Book except that the teacher notes are provided in the margins in red letters and the answers to all of the exercise problems are shown in red letters also. Note: the answers are found only in the Teacher's Edition.

Due to the fact that the book includes more Investigations than can typically be completed in one school year, teachers must select the ones they want to complete. To assist the teacher in making these choices, a chart of teaching strategies has been formulated and appears in the back of the Teacher's Edition. Teaching strategies are ways that you might utilize the Investigations.

The activities include the following different types of exercises:

  • Match the phrase with the proper theory that it belongs with
  • Define the terms
  • Fill in the blanks
  • Match the name of each man with the phrases that best describe him
  • Fill in the chart with the missing information
  • Demonstrate the earth's movement beneath a Foucault pendulum
  • Use Eratosthenes method to measure the circumference of a globe
  • Look at the picture and identify the name of different devices
  • True or False

The student activities follow along with the content of each of the 21 chapters in the student text. Chapter topics are divided into four units and 21 chapters listed as follows:

  • Chapter 2 - The Glory of the Stars

  • Chapter 6 - The Moon: To Rule the Night

This Earth Science curriculum gives students a clear understanding of the planet on which they live by giving them a view of the environment in which it is found. This study begins with a study of space because the planets, stars, and all other heavenly bodies "float" in the ocean of space, and these bodies affect one another.
